Hello! I (Mary) am an artist living and raising my three children in the lovely Shenandoah Valley.
Marydean Draws is all about inspiring and encouraging others with art that echoes the beauty of creation and communicates timeless truths. We are a female-owned small business that values quality crafted paper goods made locally here in Virginia. Watercolor is my favorite medium, but I often layer over watercolor with chalk pastels and pencil to create depth and texture. I love the looseness of watercolor and its unpredictability, with all its drips and dots and bleeds. My happy place is somewhere between loose and structured, between free play and thoughtful compositions. Customers have loved my hymn prints and postcards, often returning for gifts that have a special connection to a friend or family member.
